Background

Melanie was originally employed in the area of commercial business development. During this time she came to realise the importance of maintaining professionalism and customer service.

Melanie’s interest and commitment to learning about property development is immense, and has been ongoing for many years since purchasing her first property in 1992. Because of this interest she decided to move away from the business development field in order to pursue a full time career as a property developer in 2003.

Through her successful property developing, Melanie’s experience of the different trade skills involved in this area of business has made her aware of the frequency of poor workmanship and unreliable service. It was this which motivated Melanie to enrol at MANCAT (Manchester College of Arts and Technology) on a 2-year programme to learn the art of plastering.

Melanie is the director of the company and is continuing to invest within the building sector. She has subsequently completed a 2-year joinery course at Stockport College, and is currently working through a building studies degree course at Bolton University. Completing the various trade courses and renovating properties over a number of years, it was felt time to offer the option of having a female plastering service.

Melanie’s experience of the property development business coupled with her practical skills developed from this training paved the way for the setting up of Mel Homes Plastering. The company is planning to expand and offer other trade skills in the future.
